Signal Support

Signal is a macOS app that helps you focus on three things a day.

Every day, there’s three things you gotta get done. That’s called the signal. Everything that stops you from getting it done is the noise. — Steve Jobs

If you have a question that isn’t answered below, email thiagobrez@gmail.com and I’ll get back to you.

Getting started

Signal lives in your menu bar. Click its icon for a small menu:

  • Show / Hide Signal — open or dismiss the panel where you set and check off today’s three to-dos.
  • Preferences… (⌘,) — all of the settings described below.
  • Quit Signal.

Each day gives you three slots. Type a task into a slot, and click it to mark it done. Finish all three and you’ll get a small celebration.

Frequently asked questions

How do I open Signal quickly with a keyboard shortcut?

Open Preferences… → Hotkey, click the recorder next to Toggle Signal, and press the key combination you want. From then on, that shortcut shows or hides Signal from anywhere.

By default, unfinished tasks roll over to the next day. You can turn this off in Preferences… → General → “Carry unfinished tasks over to the next day.”

Can Signal remind me each day?

Yes. In Preferences… → Daily prompt you can have Signal:

  • open automatically when it launches, and/or
  • open every day at a time you choose (9:00 AM by default).

What are “quick glances”?

Quick glances are brief, automatic peeks at your three to-dos that appear during the day to keep you on track. Configure them under Preferences… → Quick reminders: turn them on or off, set how many times per day, and choose the hours during which they can appear.

Can I change or turn off the sounds?

Yes. Under Preferences… → Sound you can pick a sound (or None) for when Signal opens, when you complete a task, and when all three are done. Use the play button next to each to preview it.

Where is my data stored? Is it private?

Your to-dos and history are stored locally on your Mac and never leave your device. Signal collects no personal data. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
